Sahar Saki
Award-Winning Welsh-Iranian Artist & Designer
Sahar Saki is an artist and designer originally from Iran, now based in Cardiff, Wales. Blending her rich Persian heritage with Welsh cultural influences, she creates immersive spaces that blur the boundaries between art, identity, and cultural experience. Her work reimagines environments, using art as a tool to transform spaces and evoke new ways of seeing and feeling.
Art as a Bridge Between Cultures
Sahar sees art as a way to reshape familiar spaces and create immersive experiences. Drawing on poetry, literature, calligraphy, and painting, she invites viewers into layered environments that transcend time and place. From large-scale public murals to multi-dimensional installations, her work merges traditional Persian elements with contemporary visual language, using vibrant colors, intricate patterns, and Persian typography to transform ordinary spaces into sites of artistic and cultural expression.
Recognitions & Collaborations
Sahar has received awards from UNESCO, Arts Council of Wales, and Business Wales. She has also collaborated with renowned institutions such as Welsh National Opera, Sherman Theatre, Cardiff Council, and COP28. Her work has been exhibited in leading galleries, including Mission Gallery, and she has made a significant impact on urban spaces through public art projects.
From Visual Art to Movement
A distinctive aspect of Sahar’s work is her integration of large-scale calligraphic and mural art with movement. She often paints poetry and literary texts on walls, ceilings, and floors, infusing them with traditional motifs and dynamic abstract forms. Recently, she has begun incorporating dance into her practice, exploring the connection between painting and movement as shared expressions of rhythm and emotion.
The Power of Cultural Aesthetics in Spatial Design
Sahar’s work redefines environments through the interplay of tradition and modernity. Some of her most striking projects include large-scale murals at Cardiff Market, Chapter Arts Centre, and Wales Millennium Centre (WMC). Each piece is a dialogue between the past and the present, using cultural aesthetics to shift perceptions of space and its meaning.
Ultimately, Sahar Saki’s art is an invitation to explore, feel, and connect—with space, culture, and the untold stories woven into her work.
